10 Places to Eat Vegetarian in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Exploring Mostar as a vegetarian can be a delightful adventure, even in a region known for its meat-heavy cuisine. With a rich history and stunning architecture, this city offers some unique dining experiences. I’m sharing ten of my favourite vegetarian-friendly restaurants and eateries in Mostar, ranked from least to most likely to return. Each entry includes a bit about the atmosphere, menu options, and pricing to make your dining decisions easier.
10. Palma 2
Starting off our list at number ten is Palma 2, where I tried a vegetarian tortilla wrap. This spot is conveniently located across the river from the old town, making it a quick lunch option. Unfortunately, the wrap was pretty disappointing, consisting mainly of iceberg lettuce and a few pieces of pepper. I had hoped for some cheese or sauce, but it was literally an empty wrap. While it was super affordable, I wouldn’t make a return visit just for this.

9. Hotel Verso
Next up at number nine is Hotel Verso, which is connected to a gas station but still offers a nice dining experience. The lobby has a luxurious feel, and while the outdoor patio is lovely, keep in mind it’s a smoking area. I opted for a sandwich wrap here, which was a step up from Palma 2, featuring fried onions and a bit of sauce. While the atmosphere is pleasant and the menu has variety, the food was still quite simple, so it ranks lower on my list.

8. Kebab and Pita
Number eight on my list is a local favorite known simply as Kebab and Pie. This eatery offers what they call an "empty kebab," which substitutes meat with freshly fried French fries. It’s a cheap and cheerful option, costing under four bucks. You can add fresh veggies and sauces to enhance the flavor. I visited this place several times, and while the food is basic, the affordability and convenience make it worth mentioning.

7. Bakeries
At number seven, we have the numerous bakeries scattered throughout Mostar. These spots are a must-visit for anyone craving traditional baked goods. I had my eyes set on a veggie sandwich, but it took a few tries to find one that was available. When I finally did, it was a delightful mix of peppers and cheese nestled in fresh bread. Bakeries offer a variety of pastries, and while you might not always find sandwiches, the offerings are generally delicious.

5. Cafe Pizzeria Revija
Number six is Cafe Revija, where I went on a quest for the best margarita pizza. The first attempt resulted in a ham and mushroom pizza instead due to a language miscommunication (I’m vegetarian by the way), but the staff was accommodating and quickly prepared a new one for me. While the pizza was decent, it didn’t blow me away. However, for under ten bucks, including a sparkling water, it was a satisfying meal for a quick lunch break.

6. Milky Mostar
Coming in at number five is Milky Mostar, a pancake house that offers a build-your-own style menu. I opted for protein pancakes topped with Oreo sauce and bananas, which was a sweet treat. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, making it a fun spot to enjoy breakfast or a light meal. While it may not be the most substantial meal, the customization and flavors make it a place I would return to.

7. Food House
Number four is a restaurant that was recommended by my sister (who had visited Mostar 2 years prior) and my tour guide, for its popular vegetarian and vegan options. Located near the iconic Old Bridge, I enjoyed a falafel wrap, fries, and dessert here. The pricing, at nearly 20 bucks Canadian, felt a bit steep compared to other places, but the quality of the food was worth it, and the location is perfect for tourists.

At number three, Fit Bar is a charming spot that I discovered with my local friend. The menu features detailed nutritional information, making it a great choice for health-conscious diners. I had a vegetarian wrap that was flavorful and packed with protein. The atmosphere is cozy, and while the view overlooks a gas station, the inside of the restaurant is inviting. I would definitely return here for another meal.
